McCormick Ranch had its beginnings as a breeding farm for Arabian horses, when it was purchased by Fowler and Anne McCormick in the 1940s. (Fowler McCormick was the grandson of Cyrus McCormick, who invented the reaper). Anne McCormick’s main interest was raising horses, and she helped found Scottsdale’s All Arabian Show. In 1970, the ranch, which comprised seven square miles, was sold to the developer of the McCormick Ranch community. The area now known as McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park was donated to the City of Scottsdale by Anne McCormick in 1967.
